Four faces of Odin

by Steve Warhola

Ironically, although Odin has family ties in southwestern Pennsylvania--home of the great Warhola--he did not meet the artist there. No, it was during his Greenwich Village years, far away from that center of modern art in Smock, PA, that he met Steve Warhola at a party thrown by the artist's little brother, Andy (who later changed his last name in an attempt to get out from under his brother's shadow). Odin greatly admired Warhola's work and agreed to sit for him without charging his standard fee. This silkscreen reveals the real depth and subtlety of early pop art. Unfortunately, the genre soon became debased and trivialized when its techniques were shamelessly copied by lesser artists, including Warhola's own brother.
