Cat with a Pearl Earring

Cat with a Pearl Earring

by Jan Vermeer

In contrast to his work with artists like Warhol, Stieglitz, or Manet, Odin's time in Vermeer's studio was a period of calm and respite. Amidst the tumult of the art world, artist and model collaborated to create a dozen paintings of quiet beauty. Some, such as "Cat with a Lute," or "Cat and a Laughing Girl," capture the small details of everyday life. But the unquestionable masterpiece of the series is "Cat with a Pearl Earring." Lovely and gentle, Odin glances innocently over his shoulder to catch the eyes of the viewer. His pearl earring beautifully reflects the light in the room.

Critics are currently debating whether or not Vermeer used a special lens to trace the images in these paintings. As the only survivor of the studio, Odin has chosen to remain silent on the issue.
