Morning in Greenwich Village

by Alfred Stieglitz

This photo is one of an extensive series. After Odin left the Manet studio, he joined Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O'Keefe. By that time, Stieglitz had begun to tire of taking pictures of O'Keefe, and quickly became obsessed with photographing Odin. Most of the pictures in this collection focus on various parts of Odin--a paw here, a tail there. "Morning" is a rare photo in that it shows Odin in his entirety, reclining in the stark winter light of the threesome's bedroom. Eventually, Stieglitz and O'Keefe began to argue over Odin and to be jealous of his attentions to the other. So, three months after this photograph was taken, Odin slipped out into the alley behind 291 and never returned.
