Rainbow
was found by a little old lady in Aaronsburg, PA. Apparently, her mother is
the mother of all cats in Aaronsburg--a feral female they've not been able to
trap and spay.
Rainbow herself was little more than a kitten, but quickly proceeded to go into labor. The old woman, panicked, called up her neighbor, who happened to be a PAWS volunteer. The neighbor helped her deliver the kittens--five boys--and then later fostered all six cats for PAWS.
Rainbow is a beautiful cat--petite and elegant, with gorgeous orange and silver and brown classic tabby swirls. This picture doesn't do her justice. All of her sons, including Odin, look a lot like her. Whoever the father was, he doesn't seem to have made any genetic impact. The five boys--Odin, Baldur, Thor, Loki, and Zeus--have her same pointy face, same slender build, same eyes, same classic tabby pattern. They each took one of the colors from her coat of many colors. So Odin is orange, Baldur is silver, etc. Some, like Zeus, got lots of their mothers white, with only spots of tabby. Odin only has white on his chin and one spot on his belly. (Since they mark two of his favorite places to have rubbed, I told my nieces that that's what they were for. Then, when they saw an all-white cat, they said in awe, "She must love to be rubbed everywhere!")
Odin also seems to have inherited his mother's temperament. As you can see in this picture, she's not too thrilled with the company. One could attribute her shy ways to her feral background, but Odin was raised in a house since birth. He gets exactly the same expression when he's unsure of a stranger.
Happily, Rainbow did eventually find a home through PAWS with an older woman who lives by herself. Apparently, within the first week she was snuggling up on her bed and was sweet as could be.
