Bedroom before:

Okay, it's not so bad, but a little dark and definitely not my style (which explains why my stuff looks so out of place in this room). And much as I love wood, the trim in the bedroom is not the same nice oak as downstairs and in the hall, and it was covered with really shiny old varnish.

Bedroom After

I think this is now my favorite room in the house. It's wonderfully light and spare. I call this renovation my tribute to recycling (you'll see why). I think the total cost was under $50, and most of that was paint.

This is the headboard made out of shutters from a rummage sale and old lumber left by the previous owner. The pictures over the bed include one of golden aspen trees from when Danette and I drove over to Park City and another of a giraffe walking down a road in Kenya (thanks, Pat). Others are from North Carolina.
The quilt on the wall is made from pieces of a quilt my great-grandmother sewed. This window is looking out the back of the house, for those of you who may have gotten turned around.
The necklaces are hanging from what had been John H.'s old tie rack. The door on the left goes up to the attic. This room is a bit of a challege because it has three doors and three windows.
Bought the mirror at the same rummage sale as the shutters. Those are earrings hanging on the shutters (an idea I stole from a cool little shop in Bellefonte).
This is the dragonfly lamp I made from some Tiffany wrapping paper Kate gave me (thanks!) and painting an old lamp bought at a house sale. You should see it with the light coming through it. It sits on.....
.....the infamous birdbath table. Another legacy from the previous owners. The bowl broke, and besides, I think one birdbath outside is sufficient, so I brought this in, painted it, slapped on a top, and now have a great little table (for the right price).
This is a detail of the new trim on the door and window frames. As you can see in the before pictures, the trim wasn't great. I added some molding and decorative paint. The wall surface, which you can't see, is also kind of cool. The plaster is very rough, and it's ragged with yellow and white glaze to emphasize the texture. Took at least two weeks to scrape off all the old wallpaper, but I like the look of the old plaster.
